Come on and take a free ride...

I can remember, when I was pregnant with Elijah, peering into the back seat of our Ford Taurus and trying to imagine a child, my child, staring up at me, all buckled in and asking repeatedly, "Are we almost there, mom...are we? ARE WE?!! It seemed impossible.

Just recently, I watched from my minivan another minivan pull into the library parking lot and then one, two, three, four daughters emerge from within it. "Whoa," I thought to myself, "that woman sure has her hands full," and then I turned around to grab my purse and saw this (see above photo) and for a second it felt so surreal. "Good Gracious! Did Troy and I have all these kids? When did that happen? I'd best not blink again," I quickly determined, "lest I turn around and find the van is empty, all my children grown and gone - my days less hectic, less tiring, less noisy. Less.

Don't wish it away.

I have to admit, that in your email yesterday when you quoted Troy as saying, "The six of us . . ." my first thought was, "SIX? Just who does that include?"

Apparently you are not the only one who lost count! :)

Four daughters?!? Now what kind of crazy person would have four daughters?!?

"What kind of crazy people have four daughters?!"

Only crazy awesome ones! :) Seriously, though, you seem to have such a lovely family. I was very touched and encouraged by your older daughter's poignant blog.

I bet your head was swimming there for awhile, Carrie, when Michelle and I were racing neck and neck for the most amount of children in a ridiculously short period of time. I have to say, you are an amazing Aunt to keep up with all your nieces and nephews like you do!

Molly, someday when you are on a speaking/booksigning tour, we'll try to get you down to Houston. Maybe you can speak at St. Joseph's and y'all can come to our home. Then our families can get together. Won't that be a houseful of kids?!?

Well that would be lovely, Father James - preferably in late February when we are all wintered out and in desperate need of some Texas sun!!

Well, thank you Molly. That's awful sweet of you. I am so thankful that we all came to our senses and moved within an hour or so of each other.

The unexpected side effect of Michelle's and your rampant reproduction is the untold amount of knowledge I now hold about pregnancy and breastfeeding and such . . . and the strange looks I receive when sharing said information; always having to explain that no, I've never been pregnant.
